Orologio Mytrix Nove
Tribute to HM King Rama IX
When I finally decided to move to Thailand in 2014 following my son Giacomo academic path, I honestly did not own a profound knowledge about Thai culture, and neither I was aware of HM the King Bhumibol Adulyadej artistic eclecticism - spanning from painting to music – nurtured with love and discipline while performing excellence in His Royal duties. The most interesting stories, expression of respect and love, appreciation for his humanity and talents I heard them all from Thai people of any social class. That was enough of a trigger for my sensitivity to paint three portraits of King Bhumibol Adulyadej between 2014 and 2017 (figurative-abstract, figurative, epigenetic-abstract). The last one, Mytrix 9, is the epigenetic portrait, in line with my personal Mytrix temporary art research manifesting in the field of so called “abstract painting” in which King Bhumibol Adulyadej also engaged extensively fearless and with deep interest.
Epigenetics is a new branch of biology that is growing in research popularity in the scientific world. Epigenetics is the study of potentially heritable changes in gene expression (active versus inactive genes) that does not involve changes to the underlying DNA sequence — a change in phenotype without a change in genotype — which in turn affects how cells read the genes. In simple words, it’s about the nature and quality of communication between our cells’ system and the environment beyond our DNA that establishes the true potential of the human mind, and the cells health in our body.
ARTact – Mytrix 9 painting
We are transient beings, we are all accountable for any action and consequential reaction in a society of constantly changing cultural and behavioral patterns. In the fields of Art and Science, seemingly capable of magnificent abstractions, humans have an intense need to externalize their insights. Painting, music are art and a highly transmissible cultural product, but we still have an incomplete understanding of how our artistic experience shapes and is vividly retained within our brain, and how it affects our behavior. However, the developing field of social epigenetics is now helping us to describe how communication and emotion, prime hallmarks of music, painting ect. can be linked to a transmissible, biochemical change. In humans, neurogenesis is now thought to proceed for the entire life of individuals, if proper stimulation is available. Music and painting, for example, can be such a stimulus. Mytrix 9 portraits the Gestalt beauty of Thai People’s King and Supreme Artist HM King Rama IX. Mytrix 9 original painting imagery, patterns and textures have been transliterated into a bas-relief silver dial for a unique timepiece produced in a limited edition of 9 pieces. Orologio Mytrix Nove was created through the love and manual skills of Thai craftsmanship with A-rtisan watchmaker in Bagkok.
